Today Is where we move on from our camp spot at the Walkabout lodge/Caravan Park and move out to a free campsite we spotted at Rainbow cliff right on the beach, this opened the door for more and more fishing to be had, unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it we ended up with a Pikey Bream and a good sized Mangrove Jack which was better than nothing. Whilst fishing we saw a cheeky little croc swimming up the river that wasn’t flowing into the ocean, we couldn’t get close enough to see if it was a freshy or salty, however it didn’t look very big. With beautiful sunsets and views, it was hard not to sit back and enjoy the serenity, with a beautiful campfire.

On the low tide you can walk out for miles and explore the rock pools created by the tide and try to see where the fish might hide on a high tide. The free camping area isn’t designed for big vans as they would rarely come out here, so we only had the one choice, but it has been one of the best free camps we have stayed at on our trip so far.

After fishing we headed out to (Wathaway) Goanna Lagoon and found a rope swing and a fallen down tree which gave the kids endless amount of play time. The kids loved it that much and looked like they were having so much fun with it so us adults thought we would give it a go too. the swimming in the small pools is beautiful with flowing crystal-clear water. This is where many locals come and bring their kids after school is finished, to cool down and have a play, as there were lots of local kids after that 3 o’clock mark.

There are some really nice camp areas around the flowing water, that would be another perfect base to set up, if free camping is your thing. There is a cool water crossing that dips down and up very sharply as you drive in which we had lots of fun going back a fourth to capture some awesome footage of our car’s suspension working fantastic. The water isn’t very deep but gets a great shot for the camera.

Just before sunset we decided to try our luck with the fish again, we caught a few more small mangrove jacks and a half decent cod but we let them all go to live another day, the fishing wasn’t what I expected but as the saying goes, a bad days fishing is better than a good days work so who are we to complain.

Stay Tuned next week for Part 7.
